Bad: I recently stayed at Shangri-La Hotel, Bosphorus, Istanbul, and had a disappointing experience due to unexpected extra charges at checkout. At check-in, I was informed that my booking amount covered my entire stay, provided I didnt use any extras. However, at checkout, I was told that an additional service fee had not been charged due to an oversight by the check-in staff. The staff at checkout claimed that the person who checked me in was inexperienced and new, which is why the fee wasnt charged initially. However, the person who checked me in appeared very experienced and professional, even offering an upgrade and waiving a deposit for potential extras. When I refuted this explanation, the checkout staff then changed the reason to a glitch in the system. This inconsistency made the situation feel even more unprofessional and deceptive. Being informed of an additional charge at checkout, which was equivalent to around 10% of my booking price, and the manner in which it was communicated, felt very deceptive. This is not what I expect from a five-star hotel. Moreover, I have never encountered such a charge in all my extensive travel experience, whether in Europe or in Turkey.
